Oenotri

Last month we finally made it to Oenotri for dinner. Everything I heard about this Italian restaurant in downtown Napa was positive, so of course we had to try it out.

Taste of the Himalayas

I’ve had my eye on this restaurant since we moved to Napa last December. We finally went for dinner a few weeks ago. The Nepalese restaurant is in a historic building, calls the Old Adobe, just off Soscal Avenue and Silverado Trail. Reservation are a good idea, since the place is small. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with wood beams, walls, and floors. The acoustics are quite loud. When we arrived there were two very large parties and two to three large parties, making it very loud and difficult to talk. It also left only a few tables for smaller parties of two to four people.

Bui Bistro

Our friends invited us to go to dinner last week at Bui Bistro, in downtown Napa. I had even heard of this Vietnamese restaurant. This is a great example of why you should not rely solely on Google for information. It’s awesome that Napa has a Vietnamese dining option, and it had yet to pop up in any of my Google searches.

It’s on the smaller side, tucked on a side street among other restaurants. Our party was 8 total, so we were able to try a number of appetizers. Spring rolls, duck confit, and … None of the appetizers stood out as amazing, but they were quite good.

For my entree I chose the Cod in a Clay Pot. The pot definitely keeps the heat in. The fish stayed not thought the entire entree course. The sauce was a bit on the salty side for my taste, with a very heavy soy flavor, but the side of rice definitely helped to almost balance the flavors. My husband chose the Shaken Beef on Arugula, which looked delicious and will be what I order next time.

Overall the food is quite good. Our friend even mentioned it is the best Asian restaurant they have found in Napa to date. There are a few more appetizers and entrees that look intriguing, so I think at some point we will be going back —especially if we have a craving for Asian flavors.

La Taquiza

La Taquiza’s fish tacos are, by far, my favorite fish tacos, to date.  Both the California (seasoned and grilled fish) and Baja (battered and fried fish) are amazing.  It’s hard to pick a favorite among the two.  Each served are on a soft corn tortilla and topped with a bit of purple cabbage, for pleasant crunch and added color.  Pico de gallo is added for more color and a nice acidity, to balance the sweet crema drizzled on top.
