Bui Bistro

Our friends invited us to go to dinner last week at Bui Bistro, in downtown Napa. I had even heard of this Vietnamese restaurant. This is a great example of why you should not rely solely on Google for information. It’s awesome that Napa has a Vietnamese dining option, and it had yet to pop up in any of my Google searches.

It’s on the smaller side, tucked on a side street among other restaurants. Our party was 8 total, so we were able to try a number of appetizers. Spring rolls, duck confit, and … None of the appetizers stood out as amazing, but they were quite good.

For my entree I chose the Cod in a Clay Pot. The pot definitely keeps the heat in. The fish stayed not thought the entire entree course. The sauce was a bit on the salty side for my taste, with a very heavy soy flavor, but the side of rice definitely helped to almost balance the flavors. My husband chose the Shaken Beef on Arugula, which looked delicious and will be what I order next time.

Overall the food is quite good. Our friend even mentioned it is the best Asian restaurant they have found in Napa to date. There are a few more appetizers and entrees that look intriguing, so I think at some point we will be going back —especially if we have a craving for Asian flavors.

Review – Zuzu

Last month we went to Zuzu for dinner in downtown Napa.  We went on a Friday night at around 8:15 and the place was slammed.  They don’t take reservations, and thankfully we weren’t super hungry yet, so we opted for the forty-five minute wait to be seated.

Review Angèle Restaurant and Bar

For our Christmas gift to each other my husband and I picked out a local restaurant in Napa for a dinner in January.  After a bit of research, I chose Angèle, located in downtown Napa on the riverfront in the Hatt Building.  The restaurant is right on the water and the patio overlooks the river.  The restaurant is actually in a historic 1890s ship chandlery.  The floors are beautiful dark wood and the ceiling has gorgeous wood beams.  As it is the middle of winter and quite cold and rainy, all seating was indoors, which greatly limits the amount of tables available.
