Ginger Simple Syrup
This is a great flavored syrup for ginger ale or cocktails. Add it to soda water for homemade ginger ale. It’s also great added to apple or cranberry juice for a ginger spice kick.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 50 minutes (includes steeping)
Makes: 1 cup
Ingredients
1/4 cup peeled, sliced ginger
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Equipment
Small pot
Glass jar with lid
Strainer
Process
Add all ingredients to the pot. Bring to a simmer. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
Let the ginger steep for 45 minutes, or longer.
Strain the syrup.
Lay the ginger pieces on a wire cooling rack to dry. This will give you candied ginger.
When the syrup has completely cooled to room temperature bottle it and store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
