A sweet, braided bread has been on my holiday baking list for years, but I never get around to making one. The Tuesdays with Dorie baking group is an excellent motivator for finally making braided bread for the holidays. Braided breads just look so festive!

Pie Weights

When a recipe calls for blind baking a pie crust it’s referring to baking the crust before filling it.  Often this is done to help prevent the crust from becoming soggy when you bake it with the filling.  To do this you need to line the dough with parchment or aluminum foil so it completely covers the dough, and then fill it with pie weights.

With holiday baking in full swing it’s an excellent time to discuss mise en place.  Mise en place is a French term used in the culinary world and refers to measuring out and preparing all ingredients necessary for a dish before starting to cook or bake.
