Last winter I picked up some of these satsumas for the first time. The vibrant orange, slightly crinkled skin with the deep green leaf attach at the stem looked too good to pass up.
Upon arriving home and breaking in to one of these somewhat squat citrus fruits, I found it super easy to peel. The skin is almost loose, which is why it looks a bit crinkled. The fruit is super sweet, with a slight zesty tang, and bursting with juice.
Since satsumas are so easy to peel they make a wonderful snack. They are also great in salads or in salsas for white fish.
Look for them now in the United States before they’re season ends.
