Rancho Grande #3

This restaurant has been on my list to try since we moved in January. A few weeks ago we finally went for lunch. We sat in the patio area, surrounded by grapevines and cacti.

Chips and salsa are brought out immediately. The salsa had super fresh tomato flavor, with a nice hint of acidity. The chips were thin, crisp, and nicely salted. Very fresh.

I ordered an Al Pastor Torta. This was the first time I’ve had a Torta (Mexican sandwich), so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it was delicious…and big. The bread was like a cross between focaccia and ciabatta, more oil and salt than ciabatta, and more of a golden crust then focaccia. A layer of black beans is spread on the bottom piece of bread, followed by a nice heaping of Al Pastor (barbecued pork), a layer of sliced tomatoes, and a sprinkling of shredded lettuce for crunch.

My husband ordered a Carnitas Wet Burrito. It was ginormous. The sauce was a nicely complex mole. I’ve only had a complex mole once before that I can remember.

We will definitely be going back.
