Hazelnut Biscotti

This is one of my favorite recipes in the book that we’ve made to date, along with the Rugelach and Irish Soda Bread.  These hazelnut biscotti remind me of those I had in Rome.  We dipped them in chilled sweet, syrupy Vin Santo.  Oh, so good.  If they remind me of Italy, it must be a great recipe.

The hazelnut flavor is quite pronounced, and I love it.  It comes from not only the roasted hazelnuts, but also from a bit of Frangelico too.  Ever so slightly sweet, with a nice crunch, these Italian cookies are great dipped in espresso or coffee.

Now all I need is some Vin Santo for an after dinner treat to take me back to Rome.  I can taste it now.

You’ve posted a beautiful step by step tutorial, and your biscotti looks beautiful.
The Italian ones are called “Cantucci” and the recipe is similar.

    Julia’s biscotti is amazingly delicious… a winner!
I’ve tripled the dough at the very beginning to make 3 version and loved them all (too much)!

Besides I am so glad to have learned the technique of blanching almonds and hazelnuts…it’s very handy!

  2. I agree this biscotti was one of my fav recipes from the book.. loved it!

Your pictures are wonderful. Hmm. This is the third blog that mentions Vin Santo. I’ve never had it. I must get my hands on a bottle before I eat all of the biscotti.

Lovely photos! They’re making me want to try the recipe as written, soon. We made some variations, just ’cause that’s what we had on hand.

I’ve never had vin santo, but it sounds like a great accompaniment. Great photos of the entire process. I liked the end result too.

Nice pictures – I have heard so much about vin Santo with these cookies, I may have to go hunt some down.
