Cakebread Cellars 2009 Zinfandel

Red Hills Lake County

This lovely Zinfandel was actually a replacement in our wine club shipment.  We picked our wine up at the end of the period and they ran out of the scheduled wine.  And, I’m glad it worked out that way, otherwise I may not have found it.The zinfandel has a lot of nuance, but is not soft.  There’s a lot of flavor in this wine.  It starts off with strawberry and gets deeper with cherry and currant flavors.   Smooth vanilla notes follow and the lingering savory taste of almonds completes the taste.

This wine is versatile too.  I would pair it with chicken or pork, but it’s nuanced enough you could pair it with a salad or other appetizers.
