Homemade Lemonade

Nothing beats homemade lemonade on a hot summer day.  You get that sweet-tart flavor that is just hard to replicate in a powder or a can.  We had an abundance of lemons from our friends lemon tree, so we made lemonade.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Makes: 2 Quarts

Ingredients

2 ½ to 3 cups lemon juice from 12-16 average sized lemons, more if they are on the small side

1 cup sugar

5 to 5 ½ cups filtered water

Process

Squeeze the lemons to get 2 ½ to 3 cups of fresh lemon juice.  If you do not have an electric juicer, hand off 3-4 cut lemons to each person in the family and have each person help juice.

Mix in 1 cup of sugar, whisking vigorously to dissolve the sugar in the lemon juice.

Add 5 to 5 ½ cups of water to the lemon/sugar mixture.

Chill, and then serve over ice.

For a sparkling version add soda water in place of flat, filtered water.
