Cheese of the Month – New Zealand Grass Fed Sharp Cheddar from Trader Joe’s
I’ve purchased the New Zealand Grass Fed Sharp Cheddar cheese a number of times since I first saw it on the shelf at Trader Joe’s. The sharp, deep, flavor is amazing and complex. This cheese is great on sandwiches, burgers, tuna melts, eggs, apples, and crackers. Best of all the cows were raised on grass, which adds a lot more nutrients and healthy fats to the cheese. It’s better for the cows and in turn better for humans.

This cheese is also an incredibly good price. And I’m very happy to support something from New Zealand after the terrible earthquake.
I bought some of this cheese and only when I got home did I notice white bumps on the underside of the cheese in the package. Is this normal? Or probably mold?
Sometimes white spots develop from calcium deposits, at least so I’ve read. This is somewhat common with Parmigiano. I also found an article here which may be of help to you – http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/food-and-nutrition/AN01024
You could also take it back to the Trader Joe’s where you bought it, if it’s not too much hassle, and ask/show them. I had to take a product back the other month and they had no problem exchanging my item.
This cheese the th BEST tasting Cheddar Cheese I have ever had- I consider myself a cheese affectionato – Vermont Cheddar is good, New york is alright, Wisconsin is nice, but THIS NEW ZEALAND CHEESE is PERFECTO.
