Sausage and Pesto Pizza
This pizza is simple and flavorful. The ingredients and the prep are minimal. The sweet and tangy pesto Genovese with the sweet Italian sausage is a delicious and rich combination. Serve the pizza with a light mixed salad as a side dish.
Prep Time: 5-10 minutes (if dough is already made)
Cook Time: About 15-18 minutes
Serves: 1-12” Round Pizzas
½ recipe Pizza Dough
½ lb. crumbled sweet Italian sausage (about average 2 links)
¼ to ⅓ cup pesto Genovese (store bought or homemade)
6 oz of Mozzarella cheese, freshly grated
Pizza stone, optional
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Make the pesto if you are making homemade.
Pull out the pizza dough to about a 12-inch round. If the dough is springy back let it rest a bit, then resume pulling out the dough.
Grate the mozzarella cheese.
Remove the sausage from the casings and break it apart into pieces.
Par bake the pizza dough, either on a pizza stone or a baking sheet for 5-7 minutes.
Now top the par-baked dough with the pesto, then with the grated mozzarella cheese, and then with bits of sausage.
Bake for another 10 – 12 minutes or so.
Slice after five minutes and serve.
