Gruyere, Radish, and Butter Sandwich
Radishes, salt, and butter are a traditional combination. Sprinkle on a bit of sea salt to heighten the flavor. With this sandwich I added Gruyere cheese to add a nice salty, complex savory flavor.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 2 Sandwiches
Ingredients
6+ small radishes, divided (3-4 thinly sliced)
2-4 slices Gruyere cheese
4 slices of white bread, preferably homemade
Softened, unsalted butter
Fine sea salt, optional (just a tiny pinch)
Process
Slice the Gruyere cheese.
Lightly spread the softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
Place a single layer of the sliced Gruyere cheese on top of two slices of bread.
Place a single layer of thinly sliced radishes on top of the Gruyere, on each of the two slices of bread.
Sprinkle the radishes with fine sea salt. Just a bit, since the cheese is a bit salty.
Top each bread-Gruyere-radish tower with the other slice of bread.
Cut in half and serve with extra radishes on the side, sprinkled with sea salt.
