Chile Lime Popcorn
Chile-Lime Popcorn offers a tangy, spicy, salty treat for a unique twist on buttered popcorn. This flavor is similar to salt and vinegar, but with a touch of spice from the chile powder and the lime acts like the vinegar (since it’s an acid). Best of all, you can do this in the microwave.
Active Prep and Cook Time: 5 minutes
¼ cup of popcorn kernels
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil, or melted butter, or olive oil flavored cooking spray
½ teaspoon fine sea salt or kosher salt
1 teaspoon chile powder, or to taste
Zest of 1 lime
Squeeze of lime juice
Brown Paper Lunch Bag
Place ¼ cup of popcorn kernels in a brown paper bag and tightly fold the top of the bag over a few times. Make sure to leave plenty of empty bag space to allow room for the kernels to expand. If you wish you can tape the bag shut, but don’t use staples because they are metal.
Place the bag in the microwave for 2-3 minutes on high, or until the popping reduces to only one pop every few seconds.
Remove the bag and open it carefully, watching out for steam.
Drizzle 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil over the popcorn in the bag and sprinkle with salt, chile powder, lime zest, and lime juice. Shake the bag to cover the popcorn in the seasoning. Repeat with the second teaspoon of olive oil, and sprinkle with more salt, chile powder, lime zest, and lime juice. Pour into a bowl and munch away.
