The other week my husband and I went and bought a tortilla press.  I’m not a big fan of uni-taskers, but after two rounds of tortilla making and another taco night planned we thought it was time to invest in a tortilla press.  We’re hooked on homemade tortillas – soft, warm, fresh corn tortillas.

Let me tell you, the tortilla press makes the process so much faster.  It cut the time from 15 minutes of rolling out the tortillas down to about 3 minutes.  After mixing the dough, dividing it, and rolling it into balls, it takes just seconds to flatten into discs.  Get a couple large pans heated to cook 4-6 tortillas at a time and you have fresh tortillas for a crowd in a matter of minutes.

I suggest you fold a piece of parchment or wax paper in half to line the press.  After that place the ball of masa dough in the center and press down.  It’s simple and quick.  We’re enjoying many more taco nights since the press makes the tortilla making so much faster.

Now I just need to think of a few other ways to use this tortilla press.  My only other idea is possibly tart/pie dough for mini tarts.  Any other ideas?
