Here’s an easy variation on white loaf bread. Cheddar cheese bread is excellent for toast with butter and a side of scrambled eggs. It’s also great for making grilled cheese sandwiches. Cheddar cheese bread is a tasty, homemade treat.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Inactive Prep Time: 2 or more hours (for rising)
Cook Time: 50 minutes
Serves: 1 loaf
Ingredients
1½ cups mild cheddar cheese, grated and divided
Equipment
A plastic container with a non-air tight lid for rising and storage. I like a plastic juice pitcher.
Process
Follow the same mixing procedure as the No Knead White Loaf Bread, but add in about 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese along with the flour, so when you mix the ingredients the cheese mixes in.
Baking
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Remove the dough from the refrigerator; sprinkle working surface, hands, and top of dough with plenty of flour. Turn dough onto work surface. Gather dough in a bunch at the base to form a smooth top. Place in a greased loaf pan smooth side up. Let sit for 60 minutes or so until the dough rises to the desired height.
Bake the cheddar cheese bread in a 375 degree Fahrenheit oven for 40 minutes. Remove the bread from the oven and sprinkle the top with the remaining ½ cup grated cheese.
Bake for an additional 10 minutes, then remove the bread from the pan and let it cool completely on a rack.
