A couple years ago I received The Splendid Table’s How to Eat Supper, by Lynn Rossetto Kasper and Sally Swift, as a Christmas gift. I enjoy the weekly podcast The Splendid Table, hosted by Lynne Rossetto Kasper and so I had my eye on this book. And I love it. It’s a great go-to cookbook when it’s 5pm and you still have no idea what you are going to make for dinner. The recipes are accessible, and by that I mean the recipes use everyday, readily available ingredients; offer variations; and are quick and easy to make.
From salads and dressings to small plates to main dishes to dessert the book provides great recipes for all. Various cuisine flavors are present as well including Chinese, Italian, French, Thai, Indian, and Spanish. Recipes such as “Drippy” Mexican Sweet Corn on the Cob, Sweet Yams and Ginger Stick Curry, and Hoisin China Noodles with Four Flavors are just a few of the items in the book. Tips, food based quotes, interesting facts, and cookbook recommendations are also given. I highly recommend this cookbook, as well as the radio show. Both are great ways to learn new information on food and cooking.
