Barbecue Sauce

Try making your own barbecue sauce from scratch.  You can cater it to your own taste, rather than having many different bottled barbecue sauce flavors in the refrigerator.  If you prefer a spicier sauce, add more cayenne pepper, or add in some hot sauce.  If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar.

This recipe is easily doubled.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Serves: About 1 cup


½ cup ketchup (preferably Heinz Organic, as it contains real sugar rather than corn syrup)

¼ cup yellow mustard

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon molasses

1 teaspoon ground mustard

1 teaspoon powdered garlic

1 teaspoon powdered onion

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon chili powder or ground cayenne pepper


Combine all ingredients together and stir to blend.

Store in a lidded glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
